Middle Earth

<lj-cut>

Name: Rachel

Age: do you reallly need to know?

Talents: Hmm…maybe writing and drawing

1. What do you think of J.R.R. Tolkien?

I think that he had the best ideas ever (and now it kind of sucks because any story dealing with elves, men and dwarves is instantly classified as 'Lord of the Rings-ish' and not very original) and he was dedicated, because of how much detail and thought went into creating his books.

2. What are your thoughts on The Lord of the Rings (book and/or movies)? I think the movie could satisfy more people because you can tell instantly that Aragorn and Arwen are in love, while the book hints at it by saying things like 'and he stood behind her chair'. But I like the books just as much because you get a really detailed description of everything and you can fit in a lot more (Like Tom Bombadil who wasn’t in the movie).

3. Which was your favorite section in the book and/or scene in the movie? My favorite section in the book was at the very end when the hobbits go back to the Shire and fix everything. I think there's a message there and I was really sad when it wasn’t in the movie. (It also shows what happens to Saruman which is definitely a good thing) My favorite movie scenes are the beginning ones where you get a good idea of what Merry and Pippin are like, and also the Lothlorien scenes because they were so beautiful.

4. What is your least favorite section in the book and/or scene in the movie?

My least favorite scenes in the movie are the ones with Faramir because I don’t think they did a very good job of portraying his character.

5. Have you read anything like the Silmarillion or The Unfinished Tales?

I tried to read both but got bored pretty fast. I'll probably make another attempt in the future.

6. Who is your favorite LotR character and why?

I think I like Sam the best because he has the most honest qualities out of everyone in the book and he goes by instinct. He didn’t leave Frodo when he had many chances to and he didn’t take then ring when he could have.

7. Who is your least favorite LotR character and why?

As much as Frodo rocks, he sometimes pisses me off because I think he seems very condescending at times. I don’t really have a least favorite character and all of them get a little criticsism from me.

8. What are your thoughts on technology?

I think that as long as it wont mess us up (something that I think cloning could do) then it's great! Anything that makes something more efficent is good enough for me, and even though pollution and global warming kinda freaks me out, I don’t think it can do too much harm for now. People are working on better solutions and even when they had horses and buggies there was pollution – apparantly the horse crap flew around everywhere and was causing problems in some places.

9. What are your thoughts on nature?

I think nature is the best and people should really make a huge effort to conserve it and not go making every natural attraction touristy because it takes a lot longer to fix than it does to destroy.

10. What are your thoughts on war?

I think that war should never happen and there is always some way to compromise so that all sides get some of what they want. If there to be a world war 3, I don’t think that anyone would survive, and that's a scary thought. There are too many dangerous weapons and if everyone knows what could happen if they were used, then why bother using them.

11. What do you think are your top five positive characteristics?

            Hmm…

1) caring

2) patient

3) fun

4) able to switch from serious to un-serious in an instant

5) cheerful

12. What do you think are your top five negative characteristics?

1) shy

2) baaad keeper of secrets

3) procrastinator

4) lazy

5) obsessive (sometimes I think I have OCD)

13. Given the choice, which race would you NOT want to be?

A dwarf because except for Gimli they didn’t help at all.

14. If you could live anywhere on Earth (modern, not Arda), where would it be?

            England or New Zealand.

15. Despite whatever your thoughts on war might be, if you were absolutely forced to go into battle, what weapon would you wield (can be modern or historical)?

If it was back in the day then I would totally have a bow because I have pretty good aim, and I'm to much of a weakling to lift a sword. Also I don’t really want to have to feel peoples guts being squishing agianst my sword. If I were to have a weapon today, I would have an AK-47 because they are light, cheap, and pretty accurate.

16. What are your thoughts on death?

The only thing about death that scares me is how and when it will happen. Im not afraid of whatever comes after (I'm a christian so…yeah) I don't even really want to live to be an old person because I don’t want to see my friends die.

17. What are your favorite books (excluding LotR)?

'Twilight' is a really good one, so is 'I am the Messanger'. Also 'Jane Eyre' is pretty much the best old book ever.

18. Describe your biggest role model.

Aaargh! I hate this question! I don’t really have a role model at all, sorry.

19. How did you hear about <lj user="sorting_realm">/<lj user="tolkiens_realm">?

I was looking around for things that interested me and Lord of the Rings was one of them – Somehow I ended up there though a bunch of links.

20. If you had the One Ring, what would you do with it? Be honest!

</lj-cut>

Honestly, I would probably be tempted to use it but if it HAD to be destroyed then I would proably give it to someone else for them to get rid of.
